Zoo w Santa Cruz de la Sierra jest jedyna znana mi instytucja w Boliwii otwarta 7 dni w tygodniu.  To stosunkowo male zoo, polozone jest niemal w centrum miasta – z jego terenu mozna obserwowac zycie ulicy.

Zoo jest duza atrakcja turystyczna, oferujaca wglad w bogata faune poludniowoamerykanska, ale rowniez popularnym miejscem wypoczynku dla rodzin z dziecmi. Bilet wstepu dla osoby doroslej kosztuje bowiem tylko 10 bs. (1€), a dla dzieci jest o 50% tanszy. Poza tym, na terenie zoo znajduja sie place zabaw, restauracje i sklepiki z pamiatkami.

Niestety odnioslam wrazenie, ze owa komercjalizacja poszla troche za daleko – kosztem zwierzat, ktore wcisnieto w niewielkie klatki i male wybiegi.  Niesamowity jest wiodok sowich oczu w jasny dzien, czy mlodego jaguara z calkiem bliska – smuci jednak fakt, ze zwierzeta nie maja jak ‘wyprostowac’ swoich skrzydel czy nog…

Najsmutniej prezentowaly sie UZIEMIONE dumne kondory oraz krazace w te i we wte jaguary, lisy i wilki – na ‘klaustrofobicznych’ betonowych wybiegach. Tylko jedna para jaguarow ‘zasluzyla’ sobie na kawalek trawy i wody.

 

W porownaniu z ptakami i wielkimi kotami, prawdziwym ‘szczesciazem’ wydal mi sie niedzwiedz poludniowoamerykanski, ktory mogl pobiegac sobie po trawie razem ze swoim przyjacielem lasiczka, czy nawet poplywac w stawie. Zolwie wygrzewajace sie na brzegu innego stawu takze wydawaly sie  byc zadowolone – nie zwracaly nawet uwagi na krokodyla czy wielka kapibare, zazywajacych kapieli nieopodal. Tapiry zas sjestowaly sobie pod drzewem.

Ryby to dopiero mialy farta! – plywaly sobie wesolo w wielkim jeziorze i jeszcze byly dokarmiane przez wizytujacych! Czesc z nich trafila takze do akwarium, ale za to takiego o porzadnych rozmiarach.

Atrakcja dnia okazal sie natomiast ‘Leniwiec Wedrowniczek’, probujacy wydostac sie z zagrody dla zolwi. Niestety po okolo dziesieciu minutach wspinaczki, pozowania do zdjec i przygladania sie gapowiczom, biedaczek ‘wrocil’ do punktu wyjscia. Chyba za bardzo mu sie spodobalo to ‘wietrzenie pach’:)

Leniwiec nie byl mieszkancem zoo i przed wyjsciem widzielismy go w rekach straznika, ktory przeniosl go w bezpieczne miejsce – na zewnatrz.

Bo ogrody zoologiczne to miejsca niezwykle ciekawe i ekscytujace –

‘dla ludzi’.

Zoo in Santa Cruz de la Sierra is the only institution I know in Bolivia, that is open 7 days a week. This is a relatively small zoo, situated almost in the center of the city – from its ground you can watch the busy street life.

Zoo is a big tourist attraction, offering insight into the rich South American fauna, but also a popular weekend spot for families with children. No wonder, as an adult admission costs only 10 bs. (1 €) while children have 50% discount. Besides, on the zoo grounds are located playgrounds, restaurants and souvenir shops.

Unfortunately, it seems that the zoo commercialization went a little too far – at the expense of the animals, which were placed in small cages and pens. To see an owl in a bright daylight and the jaguar poppies was truly amazing – but it’s sad that animals don’t have a room to ‘straighten’ their wings and legs …

It was pity to see GROUNDED proud condors  and circling in their  ‘claustrophobic’ concrete runways, jaguars, foxes and wolves. Only one pair of jaguars seemed to ‘deserve’ a piece of grass and water.

Compared with birds and big cats, the spectacled bear was a real ‘lucky – man’, as he could jog on the grass with his weasel friend and swim in the pond. Turtles basking on the shore of the pond also seemed to be satisfied – they didn’t pay much attention to the big capybara and crocodile, taking bath nearby. In turn the tapirs were taking a nap under the tree.

The luckiest of them all were fish, swimming merrily in the big lake and being fed by visitors! Some of them went to the aquarium of a quite decent size.

The attraction of the day was  ‘Travelling Sloth’, trying to get out of the turtles pen. Unfortunately, after about ten minutes of climbing, posing for photos and looking at people, poor thing got back to the start. I think he liked too much ‘airing his armpits’ :)

Sloth was not a resident of the zoo and before leaving we saw him in the hands of the guard, who taking him to a safe place – outside:)

Because zoos are usually  very interesting and exciting  places –

‘for people’.
