‘Evopolio’ – Game of Bolivia *** Boliwijski monopol

Graliscie kiedys w Monopol?

W pewnym momencie przylaczylam sie takze do strajkujacych cocaleros, ustawiajac blokade drogi. Gra zawiera nawet prawdziwe kamienie!

Have you ever played ‘Monopoly‘ game? Probably yes; I still remember it from my childhood. Recently we bought a Bolivian version of this popular board game, called ‘Evopolio’, named after long-time president of Bolivia. At first we were a bit scared by the long ‘manual’ in Spanish, but in the end, it turned out that the Bolivian monopoly comes with its own laws that maybe at first glance look complicated, but have one thing in common – no rules :)

So, you get from the bank a few hundred bolivianos and do what you want – buy land, commercial as well as protected areas, where you can build houses, apartment buildings and hotels. I, myself, built an apartment block in the middle of Madidi National Park, and why not?!

Fortunately, or not, I became a drug smuggler, which allowed me to get rich quickly and purchase more land. Unfortunately, happiness didn’t last long, because it turned out that from time to time I have to pay off the police officers and fellow player, to ‘shut them up’. And in the end, I lost everything! Well, almost, because together with Freddy, we decided to turn a blind eye to an evil card and, being the only players, no one tried to stop us:)

Therefore I continued my risky life of ‘narcotraficante y contrabandista‘, from time to time sharing my assets with tax collectors, lending money to family or … losing my land to a random settler. (You have to know that being a land owner in Bolivia is a headache, because according to a law, if someone builds a house on a non-guarded land, the lawful owner has to give it up!)

At some point, I also joined the group of cocaleros by setting the road blockade. The game even provides real stones!

Within a few hours of gathering of couple of tousand of Bolivianos, in cash and investments, I easily won with Freddy, who at the same time, was earning mainly on collecting rent from me, in quite legal way.

And that’s how ‘Evopolio‘ works – quite familiar, if you ask me! And I am sure, the game yet hides many surprises :)

P.S. Board game ‘Evopolio’ can be bought in souvenirs shops for 100-120 bs., but one can find one in a local supermarket ‘Hiparmaxi’ for 70 bs. You could also order it on the producer’s website ––> click.
