All We Want for Xmas is ‘Coca-Cola’***Swieta pod znakiem ‘Coca-Coli’

Surprise surprise, fireworks at midnight on Christmas Eve in Sao Paulo. So, that’s fireworks for Xmas, fireworks for New Years, fireworks when your team wins, fireworks when your rival team looses, fireworks for your birthday, fireworks for your graduation, fireworks for anniversary, fireworks for mothers day, fireworks for Easter, fireworks when you get paid, fireworks for Friday, fireworks when you get a new pair of shoes, fireworks when you remove a splinter, fireworks when you buy fireworks…

Dzien przelecial nam w spokoju – w telewizji obejrzelismy ‘Scrooge’a‘, zjedlismy obiad, poplywalismy w basenie i poszlismy na spacer do parku.

***

The first and only day of Christmas have started for us on Christmas Eve, which we spent in a homely atmosphere – with borscht and dumplings, Christmas carols and … fireworks! I thought that Cruceños have mistaken Christmas with New Year’s Eve – I’ve never seen so many fireworks in my life! The show had started around 22.00 and ended at 8 o’clock in the morning.

In Bolivia, especially in its tropical part, the wishes of Calm and Peaceful Christmas rather make no sense, but it’s probably the specificity of the entire region, as my friend Graham wrote from Sao Paulo:

Surprise surprise , fireworks at midnight on Christmas Eve in Sao Paulo. So , that’s fireworks for Xmas , fireworks for New Years fireworks when your team wins , fireworks when your rival team looses , fireworks for your birthday , fireworks for your graduation , fireworks for anniversary , fireworks for mothers day , fireworks for Easter , fireworks when you get paid , fireworks for Friday , fireworks when you get a new pair of shoes , fireworks when you remove a splinter , fireworks when you buy fireworks …

I read also that in Guatemala, the soaring performances are going on constantly from Christmas Eve to the New Year. So far is quiet here, but I would better knock on wood.

The day flew by in peace – we saw ‘Scrooge‘ in TV, ate lunch, swam in the pool and went for a walk in the park. Just as ‘half’ of Santa Cruz.

In the Parque Urbano the big Christmas tree,  made of plastic bottles with a big Coca-Cola logo on the top, caught my attention. Beneath it, Nativity Scene with another red logo – perfect background for family pictures. The path was also decorated with the banner of Coca -Cola. Just like last year in Cochabamba (as I wrote —> here).

As if, all we want for Christmas is ‘Coca -Cola ‘ (and fireworks)…

P. S. Santa Cruz surprised us very positively before Christmas, when the city organized a concert of ‘The Three Tenors‘ in front of the cathedral. The concert was repeated the next day, for the more numerous audience (as it wasn’t previously advertised), and at the same time, we could admire  dancers parade on the other side of the square. Quite chaotic, but everybody could choose what they like:)
